Banks Bar Bistro is scenically set in a grade II listed building called the Old Granary in the centre of Bishop’s Waltham, a picturesque town between Winchester and Portsmouth. Its experienced chefs, serve up quality Modern British cooking with a continental twist, at very sensible prices. Start with the twice-baked Roquefort soufflé, which melts in the mouth, or for something mightier go for the game terrine with fig confit. Mains include a classic fillet of beef en croûte and juicy tiger prawns with garlic and herbs. For pudding, the dreamy crème brûlée just cries out for the company of a glass of Muscat de rivesaltes. To refuse would be a crime.
